Countdown: 2 Days!

I can't believe that I leave in less than 48 hours for Tanzania! I have been busily getting ready for weeks, from the shots and visas to the more exciting things, like planning my safari or meeting other summer volunteers.

By far the most exciting thing about my arrival will be the books I am bringing--I am packing all of my suitcases to capacity with brightly colored books, magazines, and novels to kick off the school's opening of a library. It has been incredible watching the book donations fly in, and my family and I have started getting creative when it comes to storing them. I am taking all of the brightly colored storybooks and my personal favorite novels with me so that I can personally present them to the schoolchildren. The ones that I am the most excited for are the storybooks from Language Lizard, a company that produces children's books in dual language format--in my case, there is Swahili and English on the same page to facilitate their learning of English.

Hopefully the many other books, bibles, textbooks, etc. will arrive shortly after--today I spoke with another volunteer who is trying to help me organize shipping to the University nearby, because the small village's post office will not be large enough to accommodate all of boxes. The headmaster said that the University was close enough (right up the hill) that maybe the schoolchildren and I could walk there one day after class and carry the books down.

I'm sure I will see when I get there; for now I can only imagine what awaits me! I can't wait to recount my adventures.

Tuta onana baadaye!
(See you later!)
Jessie
